This is the first recording of anything I have played live that has appeared on this website.
We went up to Lynn and Sue’s for a night to celebrate Christmas (albeit a little late considering I came down with the flu on Christmas Day) and we had a great evening of food and conversation.
Of course, the guitar came out after supper and this was the first time I was going to try and record the event using the condenser microphone Vero has purchased for me a few years back.
I love live recordings…I love bootlegs. There’s something about capturing the moment and reliving it that appeals to me.
That being said, sometimes that moment involves quite a few beer beforehand and some rusty guitar playing hands and when you listen back on the recording you cringe a little at the missed notes, the cracking voice on high notes and trying to figure out songs along the way. Basically a typical night out!
But as they say in the live recording business….show them warts and all.
So here you have it…a moment in time captured. Too bad I didn’t remember to start up the recording unit again on my second set! We missed out on a fine version of Stan Roger’s Barrett’s Privateers. Ah, perhaps for another time.
I feel that the recording came out fantastic and I’ll definitely do it again.
