Bruises and Lazer Tag

You probably don’t know it already, but I am now residing at Vero’s place for the time being as the city buses are on strike and I don’t think I want to drive two hours to work each day.  Luckily there is a shuttle that goes from one building to my work building and it’s only down the street from her place.

On Monday night, when we got home, we decided to head out to do a little Christmas shopping and as soon as I stepped down from her apartment my ass fell out from under me and I took a header down the stairs!  Bump, bump, bump I went!  I lay at the bottom of the stairs still and tell Vero I’m alright but I sure as hell was pretty sore!  I laid there for a moment or two while my half exposed back was sticking to the ice on the ground.  Man, my ass took quite the bump on the way down!

Two days later, I feel quite sore when I go to sit down.  Last night I checked out the bruise and this thing black.  Blacker than black.  It was like Samuel L. Jackson black!  Vero was so surprised to see how black it was that she had to do a double take.  It’s quite amusing, yet I’m disappointed I can’t show it off!  I’m sure everyone is cheering right now for the fact that I’m not showing it off.

Last night Krista drove the both of us from work to head over to her boyfriend’s Ben’s place.  I dig Ben as he enjoys the same things in life…computers, sci-fi, comics…I managed to borrow a slew of trade paperbacks to read over the holidays.  I must admit one thing…trade paperbacks are so much easier to lend out.  They’re a book!  Whereas if I wanted to lend out my comics, I would have to pass them 10 odd comics in bags and boards instead of a nice little book to read.

We then headed towards Krista’s place with the goal of heading to Best Buy to pick up a new television for her as her’s was broken.  We also had convinced her to go all out and get a 40″ TV.  But the traffic was horrendous on our way there and we figured it would only get worse so we made the right decision in veering off the path and heading to her place for some supper.

After supper, Krista and I had exchanged some gifts.  I got the sweetest gift of all…a Lazer Tag set!  The story behind the Lazer Tag set is this…ever since I was a kid, I wanted a Lazer Tag set.  It was the coolest gift ever to get.  I still remember coming back after Christmas holidays at Eastview Public School and showing off our gifts and there was Jason Townson with his Lazer Tag set.  I still recall making a pact with Mom and Dad that if on my sixteenth birthday, if I had not already got a set, that I would get a set.  Now, I seem to remember talking to my parents about this a few years ago and they have no idea what I’m talking about.

So Krista decided that it was time I had my own lazer tag set.  It is pretty cool.  We didn’t get it working as the thing takes a gazillion batteries (when will the solar powered toys become the norm?  3008?) but one of them was working so I ran around with this thing making lazer sounds.  It’s pretty slick.

After the gift exchange we decided enough was enough and we headed to Best Buy.  I must admit my knowledge on new-age televisions is very limited…high definition, contrast ratio, LCD, DLP, Plasma…I know not these things.  But we knew what looked good, and what looked good was a Samsung 40″ LCD screen which was $100 off this week.  Unfortunately there was none on the shelf but we asked anyways and lo and behold, a truck had literally unloaded a pallet full of them!  The TV was ours!

Luckily Mike had his truck so we drove back to Krista’s place (where, unfortunately, he got a parking ticket) and set up the TV.  It was quite simple to set up and I must admit it is looking quite sweet in her living room.  I had thought that the regular television channels looked quite wonky on other people’s TV sets but this one looked great.  We watched the Grinch and then headed home for the night.

Thanks to Krista for the tacos and the good times!
