Drobwoes

After realizing that I should be putting 90% of my data onto my Drobo, I finally hit the brick wall in terms of storage space. So yesterday my good friend Trish picked me up from work and brought me to OEM Express which is right behind her house. The guy at the desk was quite funny in that I asked him for the Seagate 1TB drive and then says “Oooh…we don’t have that one in stock.”, then my face drops, then he says “Just kidding!” and we all have a great laugh. Ah, to be the sole employee in a store. You can have so much fun.

I did enjoy a great feed of 1/2 price chicken wings with Trish and Vero at the Clocktower Pub before heading home and popping the hard drive into the Drobo. They claim it’s as simple as that, but it was acting quite wonky for the next hour and I had remembered reading stories about how people’s data was lost after putting another hard drive into the Drobo. Fear rose into my spirit as I thought about how I *just* deleted my photo collection after transferring it over to the Drobo. Why? Because the Drobo has a backup solution. However, I didn’t have enough foresight to think that the Drobo may simply erase all my data.

In the end, everything worked out fine. However, I am going to be smart about this and back up my photos onto both my computer and another spare hard drive so I will have three separate backups. These are pictures we are talking about here!

In other news, Vero is 85% moved into the house. Mike will drop by with the truck next Tuesday and we will move the large items in one fell swoop (or two swoops). All in all, the move has been fairly easy as it can be done in carloads every day, but it is starting to get on Vero’s nerves as no one really likes moving.
