SPOILERS – Lost Finale Theories

Dad (or others who have not watched the finale of Lost), do not start reading this entry. Skip it completely! This will ruin it for you!

————————

Alright, onto the good stuff. You have been warned that I will be chatting about elements about Lost in its entirety.

My good friend Mark is an avid fan of Lost and so we have some good times chatting about our theories. I just assumed that the theories would die with the finale, but not so as Mark and I have differing views concerning what the series entailed.

So we are going to have a blog-off…where I present my theory, and he’ll present his theory, and the readers can choose which one seems more on the mark. The beauty of Lost is that they don’t answer every bloody question and that leaves us to theorize.

I thought my theory is pretty well explained by the events in the finale and I’m pretty sure I’m relaying what the writers of the show wanted to portray (considering I’m basing my thoughts on actual events/text from the show.

In the end, the Island was the real deal, this actually happened and Jack ends up dying at the end on the Island. He defeats Smokey/Man in Black, passes the torch to Hurley who then protects the island along with Benjamin Linus for an undetermined amount of time (conceivably a long time after the finale occurs) and then dies from his wounds in the bamboo forest along with Vincent (the dog) by his side, which mimics the intro scene of the series. So it’s come full circle.

I feel that’s pretty straight-forward. What wasn’t straight-forward was the introduction of the sideways universe that was introduced in Season 6. It involves seeing our characters in a reality where they are living slightly different lives in the real world. Sawyer is a cop, Jack is still a surgeon, but has a son, etc. Everyone is just a little different and we don’t know WHAT the heck is going on.

Midway through the season, back on the Island, Desmond appears and is placed into an electro-magnetic pulse which enables him to see both the Island reality and the sideways reality (if not all realities). This plays into the aspect of quantum physics which was explained a little by Daniel Faraday earlier in the series. I’m not clear if Desmond in both realities can communicate with one another, or if he is an exception to the rule and his consciousness actually spans all realities, but nonetheless, Sideways Desmond realizes that he has to make sure that the characters realize that there was another reality they were part of other than the one in sideways/alt reality.

To trigger this knowledge/memory, they have to come into contact with someone/some thing that was really important to them in the Island reality. This could be something simple like touching the woman who was the love of your life in the Island time line and BLAMMO! You remember everything that happened in the Island reality.

Now, I originally theorized that this was going to be the method in which the characters ‘get off the island’. Maybe not all of them could get off the Island in the Island reality, but in another reality, they are all living in a world where they can remember that they all shared a deep bond from their experience on the Island and then live out the rest of their lives in sideways-reality with the knowledge of what happened in the other reality.

However, the last fifteen minutes of the show demonstrated that I was a little off the mark with my theory. Turns out that the sideways reality is some form of afterlife. Do you know the theory of how you will meet all your loved ones when you enter into Heaven? You know, the people you have a large bond with that was part of the most important parts of your life? Well, it follows along with the same concept. This sideways reality was constructed as a place in the afterlife where all these people from the Island timeline would go and meet up with one another before moving onto the next level of existence (let’s just call it Heaven for simplicity sake for now).

So somehow, this construct (sideways reality/afterlife) holds all these people that had an incredible bond but they don’t realize that they have something in common until Desmond shows them the way. I’m a little fuzzy on why there are differences in the sideways reality…I’m leaning towards the fact that each person creates an afterlife where some of their wishes come true…Jack has a son, Sawyer does good in his life as a cop…they have created a reality/afterlife where some of their dreams can come true and they can live there until they decide to move onto Heaven. But, I haven’t come to any hard conclusions with facts to support that theory at this point.

Ok, so onto the church…so in the show, Jack shows up to the church and finds out he is dead. His dad tells him that he’s dead. (I’m cribbing this from the Lostpedia article about the finale). Christian explains that he is real, his friends are real and Jack’s life with them is real. Life on the Island actually happened and the sideways reality is a form of afterlife. The church they are in is something these characters created to meet up with each other before moving on towards the light (aka Heaven, the next plane of existence, etc.). Time doesn’t matter in this place so some people actually died on the Island, some people died in the finale (aka Jack), and some people died long after (Kate, Sawyer, escaping on the plane and presumably lived a decent life…Hurley, Benjamin living a life protecting the island…this is explained by their comments “You were a great Number 2”.) Time is irrelevant once you physically die so they all come together when they are ready to move on.

An interesting point is the fact that Benjamin Linus doesn’t bother going into the church as he is not ready yet. I think this has to do with the fact that he loves being in the sideways afterlife with his daughter who is alive as well as her mother. Chances are, if I were him, I wouldn’t bother making them realize they had another life on the Island considering he freaking got his daughter killed! Or did he kill her outright? I can’t remember.

Another question people may have is “Why wasn’t ‘Person X’ in the church?”. Well, I can only theorize (and others on Lostpedia have theorized as well) that perhaps if the Island WAS NOT the most important thing in their life, then they go onto another church where they meet up with the most important people in their life. Take Walt/Michael for example…they left the island years ago in the Island timeline! Maybe it just wasn’t that important to them by the time they lived their entire lives. Anyhow, that’s just a theory. It could also be that they just didn’t get the actors back for the shoot (like Mr. Eko!).

I still am not sure if they end up going to heaven at the end. Christian Sheppard sure does as he walks into the light. I would like to think that they all exit the church and go hang out with this new found knowledge that they all know each other! But I’m pretty sure they all head into the light and this was just a meeting place to catch up and head into the next plane of existence together…with everyone that was important to them in the physical world.

So that’s that! I believe Mark wanted me to sum up the premise of the show. I know he has quite an interesting theory about how the show revolves around the death of Jack and how he is being tested. I don’t agree with ‘when’ he dies in the storyline, but a lot of his points overlap my own.  I invite you to read his theory on his site “The 99th Monkey“.   By the way, you should check out his post and the videos concerning human being’s inability to understand the exponential function.  It’s quite scary.

The premise of the show was to follow Jack Sheppard’s journey from being a man of science to becoming a man of faith…and a successful journey at that! He saved the island, saved the world, and saved a few of his friends along the way.

Heat in the Sixties

I heard on the radio today that the heat today will beat the previous record held in the 1960’s.

For those who were around in the 1960s, describe what you would have been doing during this heat wave? I’m taking a wild guess that people Mom/Dad’s age would have been in school right about now sweltering in the heat.

Did they even have air conditioning in the 60s? Did you hide in the cellar for days?

We want to hear stories!

Finale of Lost – No Real Spoilers, Vague Feelings

I have watched Lost for quite a few years now and I think it’s safe to say that it’s the best TV series I’ve seen in my lifetime so far. It didn’t hurt that it had a couple of writers who have written for comic books before….comic book writers known how to stretch story lines out over years, years and more years. Heck, even my Dad is addicted to the show.

I will say this about the finale. It was decent. At first I was satisfied with the resolution of the Island storyline, but was confused by the other storyline going on. But after understanding what happened, I have accepted what the writers have given us as a finale and applaud the series as a whole.

Someone mentioned that they didn’t really care for the finale, however they had only watched the first two seasons and then caught up with the ‘happenings of the show’ in the two hour retrospective before the show.

All I can say is that you cannot judge the finale on its own…you have to do so within the context of the entire sixth season. The sixth (and final) season answers pretty well all the questions that have built up over the past five seasons and was satisfying to watch.

I have heard that there will be an additional twenty minutes of footage being released in the future that will answer a few unanswered questions for the fans. I think this is great and can’t wait to see what they have to offer up.

I also saw the three alternate endings that were on Jimmy Kimmel Live and I thought they were quite hilarious.

On a random note, I have to talk about watching Lost in High-Definition Television. Naomi and Vince were gracious enough to invite me over and I was watching the show on their gigantic screen in HD. I have seen HD for sports and maybe a blu-ray of Planet Earth over at Matt’s.

Watching a TV show in HD was WEIRD! It was too real. I didn’t feel like I was watching a magical island in a story…I felt like I was there with some actors on Hawaii. It really jarred me and I felt it was hard to get into it at times because it was just too real to watch.

I really don’t know what I think about HD now! I just assumed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but now that I’ve seen it, I think I like standard definition TV instead! Is that strange? Does anyone share my feelings?

Anyhow, Lost finale, 1.5 thumbs up immediately after watching it. 2 thumbs up after reflecting on it.

The Potential House Sale

Last Wednesday I decided to obtain the services of a real estate agent to sell my house. I told myself that I would wait three weeks trying to sell the house through Grapevine and then if nothing panned out, go to an agent.

There was a close sell along the way…we negotiated a price and they were going to their lawyer. However, the days passed and we found out that they found out another house was selling down the street for $25K less. I can’t blame them for putting an offer on that place, but talk about bad timing on our part!

That being said, we gave it until the three week mark and brought in the real estate agent who had helped me find my first house, and helped Vero and I with our first home together.

It was pretty simple…sign some forms and they do the rest. I must admit that after three weeks of stress, it was nice to simply sign a paper saying “I’ll let someone else do this for me.”

Thursday they came into the house and took some photographs, all without the need of us being there with the use of those handy dandy key boxes on the front door. Thursday night we saw the listing go up on the real estate agents’ Web site but not on mls.ca yet. That was going to happen Friday.

Friday morning, Vero and I left around 10AM for our road trip to Hartford, CT to see a Pearl Jam concert. There will be more on that later. After a wonderful trip down there, we were literally pulling into the parking lot space of the Hilton and Mike’s cell phone rings with our agent on the other end. He says “You should leave the country more often!!!” Turns out we had received an offer and it looked good.

The next four hours were spent waiting for phone calls from our agent, receiving faxes, negotiating and finally sending off the final fax. In the end (for historical purposes when I read back on this entry), we sold the place for $254,500 which was $500 less than the asking price, and which was $5,500 less than the original price suggested by the real estate agent. This was also quite close to what the townhouse two houses down sold for as well. Granted, there was the commission to pay for, but so be it.

I must admit that part of me thought “Wow, that’s a lot of money to pay for essentially one day/one week’s hard work!” but at the same time, I suppose I should be glad that we received an offer on the first day and not wait another three weeks, considering we are moving at the end of June.

There is still a house inspection scheduled for Friday so we will clean up the house this evening as we know very well the potential new owners will be spending a good four hours in there and scrutinizing everything. Hopefully we’ll receive word that they have removed their financing and house inspection conditions and it will all be done.

Some thoughts on using Grapevine…

I’m still not sure where I stand with Grapevine. The three other houses that sold on our street since January used Grapevine and the sold sign was on the front of their house by the end of the week in two cases, and three weeks in the other case. This is what spearheaded my quest to sell on my own.

However, I encountered two unforeseen events…one being the other house two doors down from me going up for sale on the same day. The other being another house going up for sale five houses down for me and selling for $25K less (which essentially stole away a potential buyer). I would like to think that having a couple of houses for sale through realtor’s would have helped me out (I would surely go see a private sale home two houses down if I were already looking at another house through an agent), but this was not the case. We definitely saw a few people NOT come to our house during an ‘Open House’ session but they went ahead to the other one.

Vero and I have a few theories on this subject. Uncle Gary may have alluded to this in a few of his comments as well…some people may simply trust houses selling through agents more than a private sale. Perhaps there is a stigma of private sales (which are most likely propagated by agents themselves), and the fear that a private seller is hiding something. I find this strange considering that house sales fall under the same laws/regulations that real estate agents adhere to, and there are house inspectors and lawyers involved in the process so what is there to be afraid of? I’m sure there are some horror stories out there, but in general, I personally would not be afraid of buying a privately-sold home.

There was also the fact that I limited my listing to a 2% commission if an agent came through the door. I was speaking to Alex who is selling his duplex and his agent indicated that a lot of agents would simply not bother walking into a place with a 2% commission. 2.5% or nothing, bub.

In the end, I thought there may be some less than ideal things about my house that was scaring off people, but considering we got an offer within the first day of putting the house up for sale makes me question that thought.

I found out my neighbour on the West side of me is selling his place at the end of June and will be attempting Grapevine considering he is only moving into his new place in October. I will be quite interested to see how his sale goes as he will not have any competition on the street and he has time on his side.

Along the way, I had tons of emails from other agents offering to sell my house at a reduced commission, or the offer to put up my house listing on MLS for $500. I thought that was an interesting prospect. I generally look at mls.ca for a house listing and only peruse Grapevine once in awhile. I wonder if more traffic would have come my way by listing on MLS instead of Grapevine? I have a feeling that more and more people will choose this option in the future.

All in all, I can’t badmouth Grapevine, but I can only present the facts for potential sellers in the future. Through Grapevine, I got great service, signs for my front lawn, a listing on their Web site. I got less traffic than the other houses selling through a realtor, but at the same time, the house selling through a realtor didn’t get any offers in the first week either.

However, in the first day of using a real estate agent, I sold my house. But that could be just dumb luck, especially considering the other neighbours took a few weeks to get an offer.

I can’t say which one is better. You pay a hell of a lot of money/commission to use a real estate agent so if you can sell your house through a private sale, more power to you. I would say if you had time on your side, sell privately for awhile with a deadline in mind…I never regretted trying to sell privately through Grapevine. I would regretted NOT trying it.

But if you don’t have much time on your side, perhaps you should really think about the fact that you may have less traffic coming through your door. But at the same time, considering I did have a price negotiation after a few weeks and the main reason I lost them was to a house down the street, I must wonder if it was just bad luck on my part and that in another reality, I would have sold my place.

Clearly you can see that I have no clear thoughts on the matter. The only thing that counts now is that we got an offer, and hopefully the conditions are waived on Friday, otherwise it’s back to the drawing board.

So that’s that!

But isn’t it just crazy to get an offer on the first day that it goes on the market? Unreal. Ottawa is a crazy, crazy housing market.

Review: Pearl Jam in Hartford, CT

(photo from Pearljam.com)

Friday morning was the beginning of the Pearl Jam road trip! Hartford, Connecticut, here we come!

Unfortunately, the trip started out with a delay as we heard there was a tractor trailer flipped over near St. Laurent so we took the back roads to Mike’s place and ended up leaving town around 11AM.

The Google Map directions directed us to take back roads for the most part towards Hartford (through Ogdensburg). I didn’t question them, and we had some lovely scenery along the way.

We stopped into a diner (Mo’s Place) in Watertown, NY where we had a delicious burger and witnessed the most vile looking bathroom and a rogue’s gallery of patrons drinking coffee. If this is the national past-time, then I sure hope none of them have to go to the washroom!

The rest of the trip was quite nice…even if we did have to pay to use some of the highways. The rolling green hills are beautiful and I must admit that I didn’t appreciate the trip through New York State back in 2007 when I went down East to New York City with Vero. By the way, what’s a turnpike? I did manage to bite my lip pretty hard while eating an excellent peperrette, then commented to Mike “Boy, don’t you hate it when you bite your lip and then you end up biting it again?” and sure enough, I bit it again. Tears were coming down this guy’s face at my misfortune!

We arrived at the Hilton in Hartford, CT and as soon as we pulled into the parking spot, I get a call from my agent saying “You better leave the country more often!” as we received an offer on the first day the house was on the ‘official’ real estate market! We couldn’t believe our fortunes. Mike ran down to the beer store and proceed to bring back A LOT of beer and we questioned if we would be able to drink it all!

We sat around the hotel waiting for another call from the agent and he explained to me the details of the offer. My favourite part was at the end of the conversation where he said very seriously “You can’t get drunk until you receive those papers to sign!” So I took it easy for another hour or two and by 9PM we were starving so we headed out to the City Steam Brew Pub for a bite to eat and sure enough, as soon as we sit down, we get the call that there are papers coming our way on the hotel fax machine.

By 10PM, everything was signed, sealed and delivered and we headed back to the City Steam Brew pub which I had spied on the Internet looking for some good beer to drink. The atmosphere in this place was great and I must say that the fish and chips was the best fish and chips I have ever tasted, and I’m not lying here.

We tried the Naughty Nurse Amber Ale which was decent enough but Mike and I weren’t feeling the amber ale and we switched to a house stout which flowed a little easier. Two thumbs up for the service from Anastasia at the City Steam Brew Pub! The food and drink were excellent as well!

I should also point out that I found downtown Hartford to be quite lovely. A very clean downtown and some nice pubs along the way. We found out the next day talking to some locals that Hartford is nice for about five blocks and then has nothing. Good to know, good to know.

The next morning I awoke pretty early on as our window was front onto the sun and the curtain wasn’t closed completely. I tried to get back to sleep but the bathroom seemed to make strange noises…almost like the building was settling. We awoke around 8:30 all groggy as these things had been keeping us up for the past two hours. No matter, we were heading to the Outlet Malls!

We hit the road towards the Premium Outlets (basically the same stores that we go to in Waterloo, NY) which was a nice 45 minute drive to Clinton, CT. We hit up Banana Republic and the Gap first off and then perused the rest of the stores. I personally didn’t take home nearly as much as I wanted to, but I think Vero and Mike did pretty well. We did manage to buy $18 cleats that we will use for Ultimate Frisbee this summer.

We headed back towards Hartford and stopped into the Apple Store so I could pick up an iPad case. Unfortunately they were out of stock but they had one on display so I could feel the texture. It was a decent case but I since found out about the Marware Eco-Vue which seems to be a lot nicer.

When we got back to the hotel, I headed to the XL Arena (which was directly next to the Hilton…by the way, the Hilton had become Pearl Jam HQ that weekend with every room occupied by fans of the band!!! Quite the party!) to try and nab a venue-specific poster. Pearl Jam is great for creating venue-specific posters for each of their shows and I love hanging them up on the wall. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open yet and I would have to come back for 6PM.

Everyone took a nap for a bit and then Mike and I watched episodes of The Inbetweeners on the iPad in the bathroom so not to wake up Vero. This supposedly didn’t work out too well as Vero said she could hear us giggling the entire time while we downed beers and cracked up over this show. It is a great show…it is essentially American Pie, but a UK TV series of it.

The bathroom was starting to smell some marijuana (not because of us! It was from the hallway!) so we decided it was time to head off the to the XL Center to grab that poster. Unfortunately, we had to actually go through the gates to pick up merchandise and we wouldn’t be allowed to get back out. This posed a problem considering we hadn’t eaten yet. Vero and Mike convinced me to walk near the merchandise booth outside of the security barrier and convince the merch guy to sell me a poster. Someone confirmed that they saw a few people already do this in the day. I had no such luck with the first merch guy, but the security guy managed to get the attention of some fan and he bought the poster for me. I slipped him a $5 for his troubles, packed the poster in the tube (which Vero and Mike where laughing hysterically about) and left it back in the room.

We tried to find a place to eat, but no such luck with 15,000 Pearl Jam fans in the downtown core. We finally managed to find a Subway a few blocks away and then headed back to the XL Center.

The XL Arena was pretty crazy. Lineups galore for beer and food. I picked up a t-shirt and Mike picked us up a couple of plastic bottles of Bud for $9 each. I thought plastic bottles were an interesting idea and wondered why we don’t see more of that in Canada. Our seats were pretty good…we were in Section 118. At first I thought Section 118 may be pretty far away as it was near the curve of the bowl away from the stage, but the XL Center is surprisingly small. If you think of the Scotiabank Place, imagine not having a 300L. So in actuality, I would say we were the distance of halfway to the stage if you compared it to the Ottawa arena. Not too shabby at all. I must admit that I was a tiny bit disappointed to be in the stands for a concert but so be it.

Band of Horses was playing and they sounded decent. I had listened to their albums a couple of times before the concert and they are a decent band. We managed to get a few beers and chatted with Jeff, an accountant who follows Pearl Jam around whenever he can (otherwise known as ‘The Dream’).

~~~The Show~~~
The lights went down, everyone went nuts and were on their feet and the screams were heard miles away. This was quite the crowd! Hartford is supposedly the place of many a-good PJ concert…I believe the 2003 concert was voted the best of that tour, and the 2008 tour date wasn’t bad either. So there was a lot of talk of Hartford being THE venue to see it in (other than Boston or NY which also has a place in PJ fans hearts) and I was pretty anxious to witness my third PJ concert…the first being Ottawa 2005 (which was a doozy) and Toronto ’09 (with Sammy, Kelly and Dana).
They started off with Unthought Known which is one of my favourite tracks from their latest album Backspacer. It just builds and builds and builds and I thought it was an excellent opener. In true PJ fashion, they then continued with Corduroy which is an all-time favourite of mine. The crowd was going NUTS.
Do The Evolution appeared as the third song and I thought that was interesting considering it usually ends their first set. Definitely indication that we would have a different night than the rest of the tour.
Some highlights of the night:
– By the sixth song, I had to bail and go to the washroom. I noticed a TON of people getting beer. This was a surprise to me as I usually don’t see THAT big of a lineup during the time the band is playing.
– They played some excellent rarities that night; Low Light, Nothingman (which I never knew was a rarity until reading how lucky we were to hear it), Satan’s Bed, Indifference and All Along the Watchtower (as the closer)
– At one point Eddie goes on about how this will be a One Time and One Time Only kind of thing (OTOTO) and they play Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love by Van Halen!!! What a treat! They’ll never play that one again! Mike McCready was on fire on that one and may I say that he may have been better than Mr. Van Halen? Is that even possible?
– Mike and I missed the talk during the first encore break where they introduced the artist of the Backspacer album as we were picking up a beer. It was an unfortunate happening of picking up beer as they ran out of draft beer as soon as we got to the counter. We had to fork out $9 for a bottle of beer. Mike had a sour taste in his mouth for the rest of the night after that!
– There was also this other moment where we went to get beer where Mike managed to get us halfway into the lineup. We played it cool and chatted with one of the guys who said that his great-grandfather came from Quebec and that many French Canadians came either down to Connecticut or up North to work in lumber. I thought this was intriguing and vowed to look into the subject more in the future. He did scoff at the fact that I was wearing a PJ t-shirt and then I realized he was kind of lame.
– Satan’s Bed was a treat with the lights all red and Eddie singing maniacally.
– The house lights went up around the time Indifference and All Along the Watchtower started up and it was an incredible moment when you see the crowds interacting with the band with the lights up. Everyone was singing along to Indifference and it was a moment that really touched me.
Some low points of the night:
I’ll be honest with you, at the end of the show I felt unsatisfied for some reason. At first I thought it was because there were so many songs that I wanted to hear that I did not hear…Yellow Ledbetter being one of them (“on a wizard, on a whaaalleee”. Then I thought it may be the fact that Mike and I had a few beer which takes me out of the moment (with waiting in lines and whatnot…it takes away from the entire concert experience). Then I thought it was the seats and the fact that there were some morons right behind us TALKING LOUDLY the entire concert. Irritation ensues. So in the end, I walked out of there thinking “Man, it was a good show, but not the best one I’ve ever seen.”
It wasn’t until I read the reviews when I got home on Monday that I realized what an amazing show we were at. Everything people wrote about was entirely true. People said it was the best show they’ve seen in twenty years. Some fans had been to 50 shows and said it was in the Top 3. The crowd was INTENSE. The setlist was solid gold, a good mix of the hits along with rare songs. Heck, they even played Van Halen for us! I then got excited reading all these reviews and realizing that I was there and yes, it was a great night. I cannot wait to hear the bootleg for the concert and realize the things I missed during the moment.
I did some analysis of my PJ concert going, and in Ottawa ’05, 31 songs were played. In Toronto ’09, 28 songs were played, 17 being songs I hadn’t seen live before. Now in Hartford ’10, they played 28 songs and with that, there were 14 songs I hadn’t heard live before! That is pretty stellar. What are the odds that three concerts in, I would have that high of a number of songs that I hadn’t seen live before?
I have since realized that I screwed myself by listening to nothing but Pearl Jam Radio for the past few weeks leading up to the event. Because of that, I had *heard* all of their songs in a live capacity and nothing was a surprise to me when I heard them. I just said to myself “Yeah cool! I love this song” but it wasn’t the mind-blowing experience which usually is “Holy crap, I have never heard this song live and this is incredible!!!” So mental note for next time, do not listen to only Pearl Jam bootlegs for three weeks prior to the show! It takes away from the magic!
All in all, it was quite amazing to see the band again and it made me realize how much I love Pearl Jam. They put on a rocking good show and the energy they project from the stage was dwarfed by the energy from the crowd. Hell yes. PJ fans are the greatest out there. Everyone just wanted to have a good time. I hope Vero and Mike did as well. I have a feeling that while Vero said she enjoyed the show, I know that she loves to see a band where she knows the songs beforehand.
After the show, we went to a pub for a few pints, chatted with some locals, called Sammy a few times to make it sound like we were still at the concert rocking out (but it was the music at the pub playing) and headed back to the hotel.
It took a LONG time to find a way to get some food in us (Downtown Hartford was PACKED!!!) and we finally managed to order a pizza to deliver to our room. I fell asleep and awoke to a severe case of disorientation. The pizza had arrived and I was munching away but was in a haze. I could clearly hear myself talking to Vero and Mike but I could hear that I wasn’t making any sense in the English language. Even when I tried to explain that I don’t know why I couldn’t speak English, it just came out different! Then at one point I asked where Vero was and she says “Uh, I’m right here.” and then this moment of clarity hit me. I really can’t explain it other than the fact that I was in a deep sleep and you know how when someone wakes you from a deep slumber, it takes a few seconds to get re-oriented? Well perhaps my body was just taking a few minutes to get re-oriented!
The next morning I was feeling top shape (but Mike wasn’t…hee hee) and we managed to make our way to Cabella’s, an excellent hunting and fishing store, where we picked up a few things and then hit the road.
Mike’s GPS ended up bringing us back up on a different route (which I questioned heavily…”How does the GPS bring us down one way, but changes it on the way back?!” which brought up through Syracuse and the 1000 Islands. I can’t really tell which route which faster as we were stuck in a traffic jam for 45 minutes and we stopped for some Chinese Food in Watertown on the way back. We managed to roll into our house around 9PM after a great road trip to Hartford, CT. A nice downtown area and lovely shopping around the area.
Here’s to seeing Pearl Jam in 2011! It looks like their MO is to do smaller tours each year instead of world-wide tours every couple of years. I can’t say I mind this approach one bit.
Pearl Jam Radio has launched and from what I can tell, it consists of live soundboard recordings from their career…a mix of already available for purchase bootlegs and non-available soundboard bootlegs!
Wicked. The countdown for May 15 in Hartford, CT begins NOW!
Happy Birthday Carol!
It’s Carol’s birthday today, and I finally noticed that it falls on Star Wars day…May the 4th be with you!
Carol and Danny are busy moving into their new house so I can only imagine her birthday will be spent painting or moving boxes!
Have fun!
