Music Listening Trends – last.fm

I really enjoy how last.fm tracks my music listening habits. While it’s not a perfect science because it doesn’t keep track of what I listen to in my car (which accounts for a big portion of my day), it gives a good indication as to what I’m listening to (or what I’ve left playing on repeat all night long which will skew the results).

As of today, here’s my top 25 list:

1. Pearl Jam (naturally)
2. Smashing Pumpkins (in terms of live music, Pearl Jam shall always trump…studio-wise, Da Pumpkins)
3. The Beatles
4. Gordon Lightfoot (I was on a Lightfoot kick before I saw him last year)
5. The National (Who hasn’t listened to Boxer a million times?)
6. Breaking Benjamin (clearly a case of ‘left on repeat’)
7. Cat Stevens
8. Jonathan Painchaud (one of my favourite Francophone songwriters. His melodies the Beatles.)
9. Sam Roberts
10. Nirvana
11. The Dears
12. The Eagles (another classic case of ‘left on repeat’ but not exactly…one day while Vero was working on some school work years ago, she had the Hell Freezes Over album running for approximately 8 hours!)
13. Nine Inch Nails
14. Matt Mays + El Torpedo (probably all from their Terminal Romance album)
15. 30 Seconds to Mars
16. M. Ward
17. Our Lady Peace
18. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
19. Muse
20. Malajube
21. Coldplay
22. U2
23. Mogwai
24. Massive Attack (uhh…that must have been a ‘left on repeat’ entry)
25. Weezer
(and bonus #26!!!)
26. Myself. (Cool!)

It’s really interesting to see the list in writing. I mean, I can tell people who my favourite listens are, but here it is with scientific proof. I do find it strange to read that I’ve listened to the Smashing Pumpkins – A Song for a Son 16 times…when I think back I think “I definitely listened to it more than that!” But maybe not?
