I just read this fascinating read about (potentially) why a CD is 74 minutes long. Turns out that someone said “We need to make sure Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony can fit onto a CD.”
Fascinating! I guess I just assumed it was due to size restrictions, but when the big guys are around the table debating what size it SHOULD be, I guess the CD could have been smaller or bigger than we thought until someone said “Ninth Symphony or Bust!”
