Fort Fright and Pumpkinferno

Yesterday Vero and I went with Trish, Jennie and Sebastien to Kingston to check out Fort Fright (otherwise known as Fort Henry outside the month of October) and Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village.

Even though I have driven past Kingston a few times and visited Eric and Annie as well, I had never been downtown. It’s a great little spot and we stumbled onto a farmers market where I picked ip some pickles and lemon pie!

Fort Fright was pretty good. They have the entire Fort spookified with animatronic zombies, real life zombies jumping out and scaring you and some excellent video projections showing zombies scrambling up the fort walls. Let’s not forget the zombie roller derby girls!

Next up was a trip down the 401 to Upper Canada Village. We were running pretty late…we arrived at 9:30 and the place shuts down at 10:00. But we managed to see it all and it was fabulous! They have incredible pumpkin carvings lit up along a trail…Egyptian settings, deep sea diving, giant moose (meese?)…I definitely think this is a great thing to bring the family to. It’s only an hour away from Ottawa so it makes for a great evening out.

At your local pawn shop

Vero and I went to Value Village today to seek out some Halloween items (let’s be honest here…I am done my costume for the rest of my life considering the stormtrooper outfit still fits) and I checked out the used CD rack.

First point…the value Village CD rack is a fabulous place to get a friend a random gift. I found three CDs with other people and they came out to six bucks. They will laugh when receiving them on their desk tomorrow.

Second and most important point…I have a theory that I need all your help to prove. I theorize that if you walk into any used CD store you will be able find Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping album as well as the debut album from Ace of Base. I have witnessed this for the past ten years to the point where I need you all to band together and report to me if your findings match mine! There are probably some other contenders like Jann Arden and Celine Dion…so if you have any contenders, send them in!

At least if you are on the road and love those two albums, you know they are sitting in any Value Village along your trip!

Jet Laggers

Saturday morning was a-ok with us. Vero woke up around 4am and I rolled out around 10am. I felt fantastic and definitely regretted missing out on Beaus Oktoberfest on this beautiful day. Mowed the lawn so the leaves can fall and blow across instead of get caught in a foot of grass.

Looks like the cars could have done better in the past month…the Mazda needs a new alternator and the G5 has a check engine light and for the life of me, I can’t find my code reader.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of feeling wide awake until 2:30 in the morning so I watched movies. I should have known better and we to bed. Mom warned me that the second day of jet lag is the worst and she was right! Vero and I are feeling rough right now and worried about tomorrow at work. Only time will tell how we will feel.

Special shout out to my sister who is having her baby shower today. How do they shower a baby before its born?

I take it back

I was thinking about home for the past few days.

But when I get to Queenstown and Vero booked us a room with a view like this…

Screw Canada, we’re staying here!!!

Winding Down

It’s 5PM and I’m sitting outside our hotel room in Christchurch NZ soaking in the sun that somehow peeked out for the first time in days. Vero is taking a nap and I am reading Neil Young’s book Waging Heavy Peace with a Monteiths Summer Ale by my side.

Life is fabulous but like any road warrior, I am growing tired of the road. I think the fourth week has always been my breaking point so if I ever had to travel for longer, I would slot in the fourth week as pure zombie time…where I can relax instead of traipse around a city.

Of course everyone reading this is thinking “What a whiner! First world problems!”

The trip has been fabulous but I am also looking forward to the flight home on Friday.

Also…in what life is it fair that I will go through TWO daylight savings times this Autumn?! One in Wellington and another when we get back home. I will make sure I don’t have to wake up at six o’clock for the second one!
