This will be a new segment on Palmer’s World where I review any burgers I tried at The Works.
The Works is a restaurant here in Ottawa which specializes in gourmet burgers. Gourmet meaning that you get quite a few choices; a Kraft Dinner burger, a Peanut Butter and Jam burger…you name it, they have it!
I really enjoy The Works and wished to introduce Mike and Vero to it after our day of filming so we headed out to a packed house, put our name on the waiting list and went home for a bit. The Works is quite close to my house…close enough to walk to!
We sat down and perused the menu which is an adventure on its own. So many choices! There are probably 100 different burgers to choose from! Vero and I started off with a tower of onion rings which were delicious as they give you some dipping sauces.
I decided to order the Not So Think Lizzy burger which comes with crushed chipotle peppers, gouda cheese and bold BBQ sauce. This burger was brilliant and super spicy! Yowza! The beer was cooling off my throat! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t recommend the sliced pub chips as they were grease-o-riffic. I like when my pub chips are crispy. These were soaked through and very limp.
Vero unfortunately was the victim of an not-so-cooked burger and had to wait for a new one. Mine was a little pink in the middle but wasn’t too bad.
In the end, we had a great time and I will mark off the Not So Thin Lizzy as an excellent choice.
However, I must admit that something went wrong in the dinner as the next day I came down with a stomach bug and had to stay home from work. Mike commented that it may have been the giant chipotle pepper in my burger! Who knows?
If you are out there reading this and have never been to The Works, do yourself a favour if you like a good burger! They also serve their soft drinks in measuring cups!
