I have been seeing something on Facebook that has to do with talking about the albums that have influenced you over the years. I was nominated by a few people and the latest person to do was Andre and it finally made me think about what music has influenced me and what does it really mean to influence? Is it my Top 10 album list?
I don’t think so. Definition states that influence is the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.
Wow, that’s a lot to think about when it comes to naming the most influential albums of my lifetime. Facebook doesn’t want any explanation about my choices, but damn the man, I’ll at least put up my explanations on this blog so future generations can understand why I am who I am because of my musical upbringing.
Has it been an entire month alone with Ezra and Sierra already? While some days don’t feel like they are flying by, as I type this I have to admit that it has flown by!
On a good day, Ezra has slept from 7:30 until 7AM and my day starts. I lift his blind and see his giant smile while he is standing up in his crib waiting to see what the day has to offer up. I get a hug from him and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t like my kisses along with the facial hair.
One diaper change later and we are sitting on the chair with six ounces of formula and CTV’s Your Morning to start off our day. After he lets me get some food in my belly we sit around and play; passing a ball around, walking around the coffee table (he’s quite steady now and hardly falls down while navigating around a table or a couch), studying the quadratic equation.
We then start off with a hearty breakfast of oatmeal and some other goodies like a banana. At this moment in time we have been making it a point to video conference with Grandma and Poppa around this time as it’s always fun to see a kid eating food.
Then it’s just me and him until 9:30 – 10am when he takes his first nap. I really like this time because we leave Sierra down in the basement to do her own thing (usually watching cartoons). Parental leave originally had visions of bonding with a child all day long. I now realize that with two children you try and sneak those bonding moments in wherever you can before chaos erupts!
A one hour nap is typical and then he motors around on all fours playing peek-a-boo with his sister or chewing on some rubber boots near the patio door. Lunchtime is usually a long ordeal…an hour some days! Currently we try and have some grains (pasta or toast), veggies (he really likes carrots), protein (meat or beans) and sometimes some fruit. Mom is usually up for some exercise time with the kids after lunch which basically means they get to crawl all over her!
After lunch is a surprise each day…some times we go out on a bike ride with Sierra, sometime we just hang out in the living room until nap time at 2pm…it really depends on how I feel during the day. Some days I’m still full of energy and others I’m looking forward to my own nap at 2pm!
Afternoon naps seem to stretch to 1.5 – 2 hours which coincide with when Mom is done her work day and we generally go outside in the backyard until supper needs to be made.
If he is lucky, he gets to now have a bath with his sister which he has a fun time with. Sierra loves it and hates it at the same time (but only when he starts splashing her!). Then it’s pyjama time and he roams around the living room, typically crawling over Maman and then it’s bedtime where Maman still breastfeeds and then puts him down for the night.
He’s a very happy kid and is very curious. He really likes opening the bottom drawer and pulling out some silicone muffin liners and chewing on them. He does not care for the jolly jumper or other things that make him stay in one place.
We just weighed him last night and he was 20.4 pounds.
A common sight when I’m trying to practice guitar
I can’t tell if Ezra has fun when Sierra hugs him like this
On the hunt for some Easter eggs

He doesn’t listen well when it comes to fetching the ball
One day even this won’t hold him back
Not the faint of heart. Pro tip: Don’t be lifting your son over your head a bunch of times immediately after supper or you’ll get some stuff in your eye and on your shirt.
He enjoyed this little doggy. It’s a shame that for some reason it doesn’t walk any more
This was taken in the era of ‘Let’s try and cram in a morning adventure before Ezra’s nap!” I realized that this was burning me out so now we generally wait and do something after lunch

This is typically what Ezra and Sierra see of their grandparents while on the iPad
Because of COVID19, I have had Sierra in the house with me along with Ezra during my parental leave. It wasn’t what I was expected but I suppose everyone says that about this situation!
But there have been some interesting moments and I feel that Sierra has started to bond a lot more with her brother compared to the evenings and weekends she was limited to before. Sometimes when we leave them alone they end up playing together. When I say playing, I mean that Sierra decides to take a ball from him, or grab him when he’s trying to crawl. But there are other fun times where she plays peek-a-boo or shows him new toys and he laughs. It’s pretty amazing to see a bond form between these jokers.
Sierra has developed quite an imagination over the past year, no doubt fueled by the adventures that her parents bring her on. Whether it’s looking for pirates on our walk around the block, or jumping onto her parents bed which has magically transformed into a boat surrounded by shark infested waters, she revels in the land of imagination. Perhaps not so coincidentally we have also noticed an increase in her lying to us about certain things like brushing her teeth or other things. I sometimes wonder if the concept of lying is tied to a great imagination. In theory, we encourage a world where things aren’t really there, but she is made to believe that they are so perhaps lying is the same time of game in her head?
When she likes to help out, she helps out well: she helps sweep the floor and pick up toys. We were also noticing she was trying to figure out how to open the baby gate down the stairs so I decided I better show her in case she figures it out one day and leaves it open. Unfortunately that experiment failed miserably as she proceeded to leave it open twice over a span of a week and was punished for it but continued to do so. In the end, she currently has to ask one of us to open the gate from now on. As some wise man said in relation to his grandchildren getting in harms way…”Not on my watch!”
Sierra is transitioning from nap times to quiet times. If she is being nice, then we offer her the choice. If she’s being mean, then it’s nap time. We have also noticed that she herself decides to go for a nap during quiet time. Why not, if that’s what your body is asking for? Quiet time has been a hit or miss. One time I came into the room and she had marker all over her hands and feet and then she mentioned something about drawing on the floor!
A typical COVID19 day for her has transitioned to waking up and going downstairs to watch TV. As I type this she is excited to watch Thundercats ROAR which is a new Thundercats parody cartoon which is quite funny. It’s really neat to see her interested in things I have interest in. I also saw her with all my boxed Thundercats toys out on the coffee table. Part of me gasped, the other part of me thought “Well, why not? She likes these toys.”
All in all, there are frustrating days with her where she leaves little things on the floor for Ezra to get a hold of, and then there are great days where she helps take care of her brother. Probably pretty average for a soon-to-be four year old.
Sierra helping me take down the Christmas lights. I refuse to take them off if there is still a foot of snow on the ground.
I spied outside the patio door to find this daredevil around the outer edge of the deck!
It’s still spring which means that there are some sunny days that still require being wrapped in a blanket on the front porch.
Sierra doing some repairs on the handrail down the stairs.
There’s not many opportunities in the house to play drums considering someone is usually sleeping!
Wow, it’s really strange to see this video from April Fool’s Day. I will still working! As I type this it’s already been a month I have been on parental leave with the two kids so it’s seems like a lifetime ago that I had the laptop set up on the kitchen table.
Sierra came back from a walk and noticed that someone had put some fishies on our window for April Fool’s Day! I believe I witnessed two little friends on bicycles put these on the window.
While I work from home, I also take some time out of my day to teach the future labour force of Canada how to type. I showed her a picture of my pal Mr. Clive and showed her how to talk with him online. He was nice enough to reply with some emoticons like smiley faces. She was quite excited whenever my colleagues would write back after she typed her name. She’s getting pretty good at typing her name…Vero said she even typed it on her own the other day!
Poisson d’avril!
Enjoying the swing set
Doing some repairs to the tricycle

Here’s Sierra helping Maman make muffins
Sierra stumbled on a DVD of Lavaleville and I told her that Maman was on it! She was quite excited to see Maman in a ‘movie’. I ended up digitizing this and putting it up on Youtube if anyone is interested in seeing Vero in a play.
Muffins are fun!
This year we couldn’t go to any sugar shacks but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t enjoy some crepes and maple syrup!
The end of an easter egg hunt
We were quite fortunate that the Easter bunny came to visit our house this year during COVID19. Turns out he’s an essential worker!
There was a birthday that was celebrated in our neighbourhood so a bunch of a cars lined up for a parade. You can’t see it but Sierra has a kazoo playing in the backseat.
Getting some lessons on how to play Rain Rain Go Away
I can’t remember if this photo was before or after she complaining of getting water inside her boots!
She was definitely complaining after this puddle!

Blowing bubbles has kept us all sane around here
I’m glad we have a kid who insists on doing some work around the yard!
More than ever, I am seeing a lot of chatter on Facebook about how we should ‘buy Canadian’ and ‘support Canadian companies’.
That’s a fantastic idea and for those who post these types of messages on their Facebook feed, I ask you to put your money (literally!) where your mouth is!
Let’s take a look at the gas stations around me. I have the choice of Esso, Ultramar and MacEwen. I always go to Ultramar because a) it has the cheaper gas compared to Esso and b) it has more pumps.
There’s a really neat website out there called Made in Canada which has a database tracking products that are Canadian. It also does its best to show you what does that really mean…is it controlled by a Canadian company, is it foreign controlled but manufactures the product in Canada, etc.
Lo and behold, it turns out that the MacEwen right next to the Ultramar is actually the Canadian owned company! So I suppose that I should drive the extra 20 metres and go wait for a pump to open at the MacEwen so I can support a Canadian company who also seems to purchase their gas from Canadian refineries.
In my case, I believe the price between the Ultramar and the MacEwen are the same so it is a no brainer. I shall go to MacEwen from now on.
But if you are driving by a Canadian owned gas station one day and they have more expensive gas compared to the American owned gas station across the street, put your money where your mouth is and support Canada even if you end up spending an extra buck when filling up a tank of gas.
For the folks up in Kapuskasing wondering which gas station they should go to in order to support Canada, that’s a little more research.
Shell is a British-Dutch owned company.
Flying J seems to be an American owned company.
Is that itÉ. Also, why is my keyboard stuck in the French mode and not giving me questions marksÉ. This is frustrating!
I suppose someone in Kap can do the next round of research and figure out if these companies obtain their gasoline from Canadian refineries or not. Until then, have fun supporting Canada!
In a medium bowl, stir together the water, tomatoes and their juices, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, oregano, kosher salt, spinach, and whole basil leaves.
Ladle just enough of the tomato mixture into the Instant Pot to cover the bottom.
Break the spaghetti noodles in half. Working in batches, add the noodles to the Instant Pot in a fan shape so that they stack on each other, making as much space between the noodles as possible (if the noodles are directly next to each other they clump up — it doesn’t have to be perfect, just try to fan them out to make space).
Pour remaining sauce over the spaghetti.
Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes: Press the Pressure Cook button, making sure the “High Pressure” setting is selected, and set the time. Note that it takes about 10 minutes for the pot to “preheat” and come up to pressure before it starts cooking. (During cooking, avoid touching the metal part of the lid.)
Quick release: Vent the remaining steam from the Instant Pot by moving the pressure release handle to “Venting”, covering your hand with a towel or hot pad. Never put your hands or face near the vent when releasing steam. Open the pressure cooker lid.
Open the lid and stir, removing any clumps. Then remove the pot from the Instant Pot and allow to cool for 3 to 5 minutes for the sauce to thicken slightly. The sauce will thicken even more as it cools. Ladle into bowls and serve.
Note that this recipe makes a lot for leftovers.
The second time we made this recipe we added the spinach, a can of mushrooms and lentils. It was great! This concoction is very large in the pot. Maybe next time I make it I should fan out some spaghetti, put some sauce, fan out more, put some sauce, etc.
My parental leave started yesterday when Vero went back to work. So far she is able to work from home which is great! I have Sierra and Ezra to take care of when she’s working so it’s a handful. Not going to lie, I have been looking forward to nap time in the afternoons.
Here’s some important lessons I’ve learned so far:
When the baby is screaming at you when you’re putting on his coat, it’s probably because his finger is caught and is so far backwards on his hand that it looks like it’s broken.
When putting a baby into your backpack, do try and remember to attach the straps over his shoulders.
After a hearty meal of kidney beans, asparagus and formula, don’t try and start to do bench presses using the baby because you will most definitely get vomit directly in your eye and all over your shirt.
I had these grand aspirations to update the blog on a weekly basis considering we are practising social distancing due to COVID19 but once again, a monthly update just seems to work better for me.
As I write this, I have just begun my parental leave for four months. We are in a transition period where Vero hasn’t started back at her job yet and I am off of mine. We don’t really know what Vero is getting herself into…rumour has it that she will either work from home or have to report to work a few times a week to help with filming during COVID19. We shall see what happens.
If the first week was a shock to the system, we found that the following three weeks were easier to get into a routine. Sierra has put a large dent into Disney+ in the mornings while I logged onto the network! She enjoys a good mix of the old and new movies from Disney. Currently she is liking Onward, The Jungle Book and Peter Pan.
Parental leave is definitely going to be different than I envisioned (but all our lives are!) and I will have Sierra for awhile longer as I’m not sure when the daycares will open.
Ezra himself is turning into a fine young man and in the past week he has learned how to crawl! There were a few times where we grabbed the video camera to film him crawl only to have one knee forward and then he falls over. But by April 10th he was motoring around at a good clip! This is a whole new world to him and to us! We have to get around to baby-proofing other things in the house now! I think it will be an exercise in patience to live with Sierra and Ezra at the same time. For example, I put Ezra into the playpen and only noticed afterwards that Sierra had decided to give him some non baby-friendly items to play with! We will have to be vigilant in keeping an eye out for things that can hurt him.
With a week to go to my parental leave Ezra decided to be nice to me and sleep entire nights! Vero was NOT impressed. 🙂 It seems that in the past week we can get him to go to sleep around 7:30-8:00 and he will wake up after 3-6 hours of sleep for feeding and then be fine for the rest of the night. Vero did witness him sleep an entire night one time but that hasn’t happened again but surely it will! It’s an exciting transition period for us. Vero commented “We have our evenings back!!” when we realized that both kids were in bed at the same time. Actually, they both seem to align their afternoon naps as well which is fine with us. As Mom said to me years ago “It gets easier every day.” I can’t believe this smiling crawling human being was a screaming mess four months ago!
This is definitely the period of parenting in which I care the least for…he is not happy in a jolly jumper or in the circle of neglect (aka the exersaucer). He has found freedom which means motoring around the house which means we have to chase him all the time!
Sierra is pretty good at feeding Ezra
He was loving playing with this piano. I had to take it away because I looked over one time as he was screaming and the thing had toppled onto him
I love how he remained sleeping after I came back from a walk!
Comfy seat. I believe this may have been the first weekend of ‘social distancing in our backyard’. For history: social distancing is trying to keep 2 meters away from others (this does not include family members of course).
Taking some sunshine in
Bahaha! This photo is t-shirt worthy. I always crack up when I see this one.
Ty and Dana put on a show on St. Patrick’s Day over video chat so Ezra wanted to dance
Sierra definitely likes holding Ezra these days
Even Fredo gets in the family photos once in awhile!

I wanted to go for a walk one afternoon. Here was Minute 1 of the walk.
Here was Minute 10 of the walk! We had walked into a blizzard! I’ll take snow over rain any day.
Vero went into town so we put a poll up on Facebook to determine which mask she should wear. She ended up going with the black face mask. I’m not sure why she didn’t take the Trooper helmet.

This gives us a few minutes reprieve when we need it

I predict this will be my future for the entire summer

I saw this guy out near the swing set one morning!
Posing for a photo
It’s so nice out that we can eat outside once in awhile! This is the perfect time of year…the sun is shining and THERE ARE NO BUGS! This was taken with my new Iphone 11. It was pretty great with its portrait mode.
The portrait mode uses software to figure out what to keep in focus and what not to keep in focus. If you look closely Vero’s face is a little out of focus because it didn’t realize she was an object to keep in focus.
Airplane rides!
Vero had the smart idea of putting his swing on the actual swing set instead of the tree branch
I’m wondering how kids know about certain pop culture items. Case in point, Superman. I have not introduced Sierra to Superman yet. So how does she know that he runs around with a cape singing his name all the time?
There are a few times in a parents life where the feeling of unbridled pride enters your soul. Going to the dentist with Sierra was one of those times. Going to the dentist for a child can go a lot of different ways but she was the most patient patient there ever was! This wasn’t just a checkup, this was a full out cleaning of the teeth appointment! I was shocked at how much they did to her at this age! But Sierra listened to instructions and didn’t scream or anything! There were a few times were you could see that she was closing her eyes under those sunglasses and trying to tune out the world and we would have to repeat things like “Open your mouth wider!”
I think what really helped was having a book about Dora going to the dentist. She brought that book with her and showed the dentist and the assistant. Is that the right term? I’m not sure what that other person is called. Anyhow, the assistant read the book with her and showed her the same things that Dora would encounter…the chair, the pick, the floss, etc. Then when the dentist came in it was go time! When we left and went to the front desk they were surprised she made it through all the things we had to do. I can only imagine that some kids don’t even get past opening their mouth!
The dental clinic in Embrun is quite neat. They have a nice toy area for the kids to play with when you come in. Also, they take your picture in front of this giant 8 foot tall toothbrush. This picture goes up on a wall. Then the next time you come in that picture is with your file and you get to take it home.
Bravo Sierra! Very impressed with you at the dentist!
I was wondering what was all over Sierra’s feet that night in the bath!
Ski Hill Park is by far the greatest park we have never gone to for sliding! Let’s remember that we went the year before and it was an ice bowl. Well this time I was worried that there would be too many people on the hill because it was such a nice morning. Lo and behold, we get there and there’s one other family on the hill. Score! Here is Sierra and I catching some air at the bottom of the hill. So much snow flying in our faces!
Sierra wanted to play on the smaller hill for a bit.
We switched up some toques to see if we would like it.
What a beautiful morning to go sliding! We left Ezra sleeping in the car at the bottom of the hill but kept checking on him.
First time bowling! I find bowling shoes to be a weird concept. Is it because they don’t want rubber marks all over the floor from sneakers?
This Orleans bowling lane is pretty amazing. They had this ramp for kids so you can just let the ball roll down. They also have bumpers along the gutters so your ball would never go into the gutter. What an improvement compared to when I was a kid!
Horsing around while waiting for the next turn
An impromptu dance/breakdance party started up
I chose this photo solely based on Aunt Krista’s intense face! Sierra definitely enjoyed bowling. So much so that she didn’t want to leave and had a meltdown when we tried to. Aye aye aye!
I’m not sure where Etienne was this day but no matter, we had Marijo join us for our walk across from Parliament. I remember the trail being very icy.
I wouldn’t want to take a dip in that river right now!
While we don’t put up every piece of art, I would say we put up 90% of it!
COVID19 gave birth to some pretty funny things on the Internet
Maman taught Sierra how to do a somersault!
I make up little songs in the house and I was very excited to see that Sierra caught onto one of them and made it her own to help with bath time! My original line would be something that rhymed like: “Washing your toes, washing your toes, it’s surely not your nose, we’re washing your toes.”
I have a very strong memory of this photo as this was the first weekend of the COVID19 social distancing where we shouldn’t come within two meters of anyone. Our neighbour dropped by with a buddy and they had just got back from Mexico. I was glad when Vero told them to stay further away from the kids when one of them wanted to help Sierra with her pail. You can’t take chances!
Roasting marshmallows!
Perfect!
Maman felt that Sierra looked like Daddy after eating some chocolate.
Snacks are always the most important thing during a trek on a trail
Sierra’s attempt at taking a photo of Maman
Dance party! There’s a funny story behind us dancing to Tutti Frutti. Sierra was asking what her first word was, what Maman’s first word was and then finally, what Dad’s first word was. “What was my first word as a baby?” “A-wop-bop, a-loo-bop, a-bop-bam-boom!!” Sierra didn’t even know how to comprehend what I was saying but she burst out laughing. We then started showing her this song and she loves dancing to it. Her signature move is going down on all fours and lifting one leg up. She started dancing to Pearl Jam the other day with that move as well!
How can I say no to someone wanting to wash the car?
Look at this fantastic postcard I got from Andreane!
I go on a videoconference for work for two hours and I come back to find this!! She said she’s due in the spring.
The headline might suggest that I have the virus named COVID-19 but that’s not the case. Perhaps a more appropriate title for this post would be “What are we up to now that the entire world is on high alert to prevent COVID-19 from taking over?”
For anyone reading this in the future, there was a virus outbreak in the year 2020 which made society halt in its tracks. Schools and daycares are currently closed for a period of three weeks in Ontario. If people are able to work from home, they do so. Citizens of Canada have oddly stockpiled toilet paper of all things which is odd. You would think they would have stockpiled beer.
Here are some things that are going through my head after a week of ‘social distancing’.
Leaving work
Last Friday it was becoming apparent that this was getting quite serious. We were hearing rumblings of the virus over the past few months as it made its way from its origin point in China. I was still going to work but adopting some ‘more hygienic than I usually am’ procedures. For example, I washed my hands after going outside or for a break around the work building. My hands have become more dry. If you want to understand how my hands felt just look at this hilarious picture from Terminator 2 that I saw on Facebook when someone asked how their hands felt.
My ongoing joke at work was this virus didn’t make people more hygienic, it just made society realize that they weren’t even up to the norms of what we SHOULD be doing.
I made the decision on Thursday evening to ask to work from home for the foreseeable future and asked my manager about it the next day. I packed my bag and headed home with all my work equipment. In hindsight, me asking for permission to work from home was a little premature as we all received notice to work from home on the Sunday. There were still a few people going into work due to the critical nature of their job but I was at home. However, the network could only handle so much of us at a time so we were ordered not to connect to the network at all in the first week.
Daycare closing
I’m not one to chat about work too much on this blog so let’s switch gears. On the same Friday afternoon we received word that Sierra’s daycare would be closing for three weeks. This was unprecedented. Parents everywhere were scratching their heads wondering how they would deal with their kids for an extended amount of time.
Vero is still off on maternity leave with Ezra so me being home would only help her with the burden of looking after two kids.
After the first two days I was really struggling with this new reality. What were we to do with Sierra during this time? We have to practice social distancing which involved not hanging out with friends and making sure we were two meters apart for no more than 15 minutes at a time. Kids don’t understand that concept so it’s just easier to keep them inside. But how were we going to do this for three weeks? In fact, as I type this, all indications show that this won’t be over in just three weeks.
My change of attitude
It was pretty early in the week that I changed my entire attitude to the whole thing. Reports from Italy show a lot of the population dying. I took a cold hard look at my reality and thought to myself “What would I be doing right now if I had won the lottery?” The answer was clear: “I would be spending time with my family. As much time as I could.” I realized that I had been presented a blessing. I could spend time with Vero and my two kids. This really shook me up and gave me a little hope in this strange time. If the worst thing that can hit me is I have to spend time looking after my kids every day for the rest of my life…is that really a bad thing?
My routine
Other than working, I decided that Sierra really needed to burn off some energy each day so I tried to figure out how to do that while maintaining social distancing.
Day 2 – It was raining outside so I moved the cars out of the garage and set up some soccer goal posts. We even had a chalkboard to mark the score!
Day 2 – Ty and Dana were putting on a St. Patrick’s day livestream as all the pubs were closed. It was a great time and Ezra really seemed to enjoy it.
Day 3 – Wednesday morning we learned the fun of kicking a piece of hard snow down the road and how it reduces in size. That morning I also introduced Sierra to a beloved past time of all kids in Canada….breaking the thin ice on puddles! We also went hunting this morning…we were on the hunt for birds, squirrels, elephants and giraffes (real ones, not the one on the balloon that I was carrying).
Day 3 – Ezra and Maman sleep in quite late in the morning generally because Ezra doesn’t sleep well through the night yet. So when the afternoon hits we go out for a break together. Here is Sierra on her bicycle.
Day 4 – I was getting bored of walking up and down the street each morning and I realized that we live near some pretty great forests. Sierra and I ventured out into Larose Forest one morning. We were on the hunt for the big bad wolf and Swiper the Fox. We didn’t see either of them.
Day 4 – I really contemplated ordering these things so Sierra could play with her friends.
Day 4 – We took a walk in the Larose Forest again in the afternoon. We checked out a new trail which was quite icy.
Day 5 – It was raining this morning and was cool. Sierra and I walked onto a ski trail in Larose Forest which was mainly ice so I don’t think there will be any skiers there for the foreseeable future. We have been learning about the world during these walks. The other day we talked about pirates and here in this video, you can see that she had been asking about rain and why did it rain on us. Hilariously I think she was talking about ‘fruits’ but I misheard it as ‘frites’.
Day 5 – Snacks are always the best part about our walks.
Day 5 – It was 17 degrees outside on Friday afternoon. Here was Sierra taking in the wind as it was too hot with her hat on.
Day 6 – Where is Sierra?! We checked out the conservation area in Russell which was pure ice the entire walk but it’s still a lovely area to explore.
We have definitely explored a lot outside in the past week. It’s been fun! Some days Sierra is more excited than others. It’s great when Ezra wakes up and we can all go exploring together. We also spend a lot of time on the swing set in the backyard and have made a few campfires. Vero and I try and squeeze some television shows in together during the evening when the kids are sleeping. Generally Ezra’s naps range from 20-60 minutes so it’s a lot of pausing television when he gets up and needs something. We are currently watching This Is Us, season 4.
What else are we doing?
I am playing a lot of Carcasonne on the iPad against Mom. We video chat a lot more with family these days. I had a video conference with some friends last night over a beer which was fun.
How am I feeling?
I think I generally have a positive attitude of the whole thing but the spectre of fear is always creeping in. I worry sometimes about supplies. “Do we have enough food?” I went out on a Tuesday to Shopper’s Drug Mart and got one thing off my list of seven items. Is this the new norm or are we just in a weird spot where everyone stockpiled their pantries and it will take a few weeks for more supplies to come in? We are planning on going to Costco this coming week where we heard they limit the amount of people going into the store. Will this results in hour long lineups? We don’t know yet.
Facebook is an interesting wealth of information and misinformation at the same time. One good thing that has come from it is I saw a video by Dr. Andy Thompson of London, ON and he makes short, informative videos about the virus. I check out his videos every day to keep up to date.
A lot of the information needs to be fact-checked. The other day we read an article saying that the World Health Organization says ibuprofen is bad if you have the virus. Then a few days later Health Canada says that this isn’t scientifically proven yet. But we just took it at face value considering an article mentioned the WHO. We never even bothered looking at the actual WHO website to see if they had in fact said this or not. So…all information has to be analyzed. Even Dr. Andy Thompson’s videos could be fiction and I should double check his stats.
Vero is wondering what her return to work in three weeks is going to be like. Will she have to report to work? Can she work from home? What will it be like with me looking after a baby who doesn’t sleep through the night and a toddler? (my theory: it will be just like my own mother back in the 1980s!) Will we encounter pay issues in having me transition out of work for parental leave and Vero transition back in? All these little questions are in our heads right now along with the constant ever changing landscape which is the world right now.
But for now, we’re doing really good. I guess I have to figure out where we are going to explore today. Bonus note of the day: I obtained a leaked copy of the new Pearl Jam album and it’s pretty great so far!
