Saturday morning had Vero trucking off to a practice for her play so I headed over to Trish’s new pad (which is fabulous…absolutely amazing compared to her old place!) and then headed out to the ‘Not Your Grandmother’s Craft Sale’ on Elgin Street. It was a brisk morning so luckily I grabbed a toque from Vero’s place which kept my head warm.
The craft sale was actually pretty cool as it was alternative crafts geared towards us younger folk – iPod cases, random t-shirt prints (like men dressed up as hot dogs. Ingenious!), and excellent holiday cards by an old friend – Lana! You can see her website here for her excellent wares.
We then headed out to the Lieutenant’s Pump for some great brunch (for $5 you can’t go wrong, and it was delicious, even for a guy who hates breakfast!) and made our way to some collossal toy store on Carling Avenue (the name escapes me at the moment). It had some great Lego selection and Thomas the Tank Engine.
We then hit up Carlingwood Mall on a whim but didn’t find too much. I shouldn’t say that – Trish found a lot of stuff but I didn’t come out of there with too much. Seeing that we still had some time to kill, we headed to Bayshore Mall where hilarity ensued like me almost wiping out in The Bay, getting excellent help in HMV, and seeing Sandra Oh of Grey’s Anatomy fame! Neat-o!
All in all, it was a good trip for the both of us even though I didn’t come out with much. However, I am 93% done my shopping so I wasn’t expecting to come out with much…I was there for shopping support for Trish!
I headed home to get ready for the rest of the night – Duncan’s Surprise Birthday party! After deciding what would be best to wear at Laser Quest, Mike and I picked up Vero and went to the meeting spot. There was quite the crew out for his Surprise Birthday (count: 26)! Duncan’s birthday isn’t until December 22 but alas, everyone is usually out of town for the event so Joelle (and others) went ahead and planned a surprise birthday party for Duncan. Very nice of everyone involved with the planning.
Duncan showed up to Laser Quest and was speechless as to what was going on when he saw all of us. We laughed, we chatted, we had good times and then the Laser Quest started. Laser Quest has you running around a dark maze with a laser gun and a vest which has points which can be shot at. If you get shot at, the gun displays where you got shot and by who. There is also a tally to determine who got the most ‘kills’. I had a really fun time and it helped that 99% of the people in the maze were people we knew! I did get slaughtered by a group of kids though. Those guys have great aim! My handle was Maverick (ala Top Gun fame) and Holly took the handle of Goose but in the end I accidentally shot Goose the most!
We then retired to a party room where there was pizza and pop. We had another game to play and it was great as people teamed up with one another to take out factions. We then had some cake and let Duncan open up some cards/gifts.
Unfortunately the pool hall we were heading to was booked for the night so alternative plans to go to a karaoke bar were made. However, someone put it to a vote and we all ended up heading out to a gentleman’s club instead! After a few games of pool, Mike and I sat against a wall and had a good night while people came and chatted with us. Duncan seemed to have a great time so that’s what counts on his birthday.
Happy Birthday to you buddy.

AND YOU DIDN’T GET ME AN AUTOGRAPH???
It’s very likely that you did see Sandra Oh in Bayshore since her parents live in Nepean and I doubt she is working hard for Grey’s Anatomy at the moment.
