I swear I have awoken on the planet Hoth and I am navigating the snow desert after I’ve been attacked by a Wampa. I could have used Obi-Wan’s help this morning.
I awoke this morning, peeked out the window and saw that a bit of snow had fallen over the night. When I say a bit, I mean a lot. Thanking the heavens that the plow hadn’t gone by yet, I got ready but then heard a rumble in the distance. No! The plow was coming! Sure enough, I got hit hard and from my bedroom window I realized that the damage looked severe enough for me to head to but instead.
However, the morning started off even worse than that when I heard my iPod clunking along. Oh no! Sure enough, the iPod was dead. It wasn’t low on battery power, it was low on functionality power. After trying a few things, I gave in and threw it in my bag so I could play with it later in the day.
I opened the door and discovered the snow was worse than I feared. A snow drift had overtaken my walkway and I had to scale the garage wall with my Spider-Man powers. I then had to laugh at the misfortune which was the entire street after the plow went by. The snow was as high as the hood of my car! These are the days when I praise public transportation as I don’t have to spend an hour shoveling the driveway and spending another hour driving the car to work!
However, I spent too much time waiting for a plow to pass me by on the street that I ended up seeing the bus passing and I was too late. Oh well. I had fifteen minutes to kill so I went home and shoveled the walkway so Mike would have a decent route out of the house in the morning. I then braved the frozen tundra route to the bus stop (which definitely felt like Hoth as no one had shoveled the walkway to the bus stop) and the bus finally came along ten minutes later.
Cursed by the fate of my iPod, I at least had a Harry Potter book to keep me company. I plan to re-read the Harry Potter novels to accomplish two things: 1) Lead up to the last novel which I haven’t yet read and 2) Watch the films as I have never seen them. Unfortunately, there is only so much Harry Potter and uncomfortable bus seats you can take. The trip to work took 1 hour 15 minutes as opposed to the regular 30 minutes. Ack!
To top it all off, I get into work, have toque-head and get a message from my boss saying that she has declared a snow day and has stayed in for the day. Doh! Ah well. She called and said that I can leave after a conference call this afternoon. She is swell. However, this will give me the chance to go home, shovel the car out in time to go to my last Sociology class tonight. Why don’t they shut down the Universities when it snows? 😉
At least my iPod came to life again after I smacked it a few times. I should have thought of that this morning!
